PLEASE SHARE: Calling all who are interested in improving the health and
wellness of our AK Native Youth!
Wáa sá i yatee! (Hello!)
Are you a community member interested in teens and youth?Tell us what you think!Alaska Native tribal health consortium (ANTHC) and the Division of Community Health Services HIV/STD Program Services are forming an Alaska Native Advisory Board to listen and engage community members starting with a one-day meeting in Anchorage.

Elders, adults and youth (high school and up- exceptions can be made if you feel the youth is an exceptional candidate).

For the advisory board, we would like to have engaged community members from all over Alaska who are interested in Alaska Native youth and teens.

The It’s Your Game- Keep it Real! program is an innovative approach targeted for Alaska Native and American Indian 7th and 8th graders. The program is an internet-based HIV/STI (sexually transmitted infections) and unplanned pregnancy prevention program designed to help youth deal with peer pressure about sex, drugs, and alcohol. It may help prevent unplanned teen pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) for youth who become sexually active.

The advisory board members are asked to give guidance, input, and feedback about the It’s Your Game program at the one day meeting in Anchorage.

Later on through telecommunications, meetings will be held to give guidance and feedback on other projects ANTHC is doing regarding youth and teen wellness and prevention.

The first meeting will be June 13th, 2012 at the BP Energy Center in Anchorage, AK. (Travel, stay, and meals will be covered.) Follow up meetings will be arranged that day and will be over phone or internet.

We believe that to have healthy and sustainable Alaska Native communities and help reduce the rates of unplanned teen pregnancy and STD/STIs that community involvement and Alaska Native voices are required.
